Cut, fill and net

Cut is material removed: the end surface sits below the start. Fill is material added: the end sits above the start. Both are volumes and are always positive. Net is the single figure for the period, combining the two.

The net sign convention

The net can read positive or negative, and which way round is a per-project setting so it matches how your site thinks about the numbers.

By default EOMeasy reads net fill-positive, matching PointStudio: a stockpile or placement that grows reads as a positive net, and a cut or excavation reads as a negative net. If your site treats material moved out as the positive number instead, switch the project to cut-positive.

You will find it in the project settings as Net sign convention, with two options:

• Fill positive: placement and stockpile count up (matches PointStudio). This is the default.
• Cut positive: material moved counts up.

It only changes how the sign reads. The cut and fill magnitudes, and the reconciliation to your package, never change. The report cover states which convention is in use, and the CSV records it in a net_convention column, so a downstream spreadsheet always knows the sign rule that produced the numbers.

Running totals

Each volume can carry an opening balance. EOMeasy adds each period's net to give a cumulative to date, so you can see the running movement across the year. Mark a period as a financial-year reset point and the running total restarts from there.

The report

Every run produces a branded, multi-page PDF: a cover with the month's net movement, a page per stage with the plan-view render and the cut / fill / BCM / tonnes tables, and a summary that ties back to your package. On a Site licence the report is white-label, carrying your logo and company name in place of EOMeasy's; on Lite it carries EOMeasy branding.

The CSV

Alongside the PDF, EOMeasy writes a stable-schema CSV, one row per volume, that plugs into any spreadsheet you keep downstream: cut, fill and net, boundary area, BCM and tonnes, opening balance and cumulative, average RL, your material and comments, the net_convention, and a warnings column. The schema does not change between versions, so a spreadsheet you wire up once keeps working.

Warnings, never a silent wrong number

If an input is degraded (an open or self-intersecting boundary, partial surface coverage, walls or overhangs), EOMeasy flags it in the warnings column and on the PDF rather than quietly reporting a wrong figure.
